A big bull ram jostles his way around you. His horns are way too close to your eyes and he smells like engine oil with a whiff of body odor.

He catches the eye of the waitress and points to a booth in the corner. She nods, and he saunters over, flinging himself down into the booth with a careless masculine energy.

You follow and sit across from him, pushing your duffel into the seat beside you.
His eyes roam over your face, neckline, chest. He purses his lips a bit, sucks air through his teeth. He seems to approve of you.

It's hard not to stare back. He's very attractive, in a rough-hewn sort of way.
You check out his arms again with your peripheral vision. It would be nice to be held by arms this big.

rick: Hey, like, you look better than your profile pic, is what I meant to say. Thinner. More trim! You kinda look like a model.
He's not very thoughtful, the way he speaks and moves, but he's trying to connect. His eyes are back on your face, searching for a response. He's concerned he's offended you.

A middle-aged ewe walks over. Her smile is tired. 
Laminated menus slap the table and she hesitates a split second too long, looking at you.
waitress: You boys need some coffee?
rick: Yes ma'am.
wolf: Yes please, thanks.
Heavy ceramic mugs clink. She pours the coffee, and gestures to the cream and sugar at the end of the table, then retreats.

You stir in sugar, take a sip. It's strong! You stir in more sugar.

When you look up, {trucker.name} is smiling at you. His eyes are strangely tender.
rick: Is that all your stuff, there? Not a lot.
He tilts his scruffy chin toward the worn duffel bag beside you. It's collapsed in on itself like a sad balloon.
wolf: Yeah... I didn't have much. Less than I thought.
wolf: But hey, that makes it easier.
{trucker.name} bobs his head back and forth in agreement. The coffee mug is small in his big hands.
rick: Roads favor folks who travel light. You'll see.

You point to the windows, to the dry sunny landscape outdoors. Parked beneath the cafe sign is an eighteen wheeler with a fullsized trailer.
wolf: Is that your rig?
rick: Yeah, that's it. Have you ever been inside one?
wolf: Nope!
rick: Well hey, it's not a tight fit, but two will make it a little cozy. I hope that's okay. It's overnight to {city.name}, and I know a good rest stop. Somethin' scenic if we get a clear night.

You spot the waitress, eyeing you both. Suddenly you realize you haven't glanced at the menu yet, and pick it up. She turns away.
rick: Yeah, if you're hungry, now's the time. We'll get some road food but I'm hauling eight hours today.
He shrugs his massive shoulders, slurps on his coffee. Those big horns sway in front of the overhead light, dangerously close.
rick: Life of a big rig driver. Ain't for everybody.

He gesticulates, drawing his hands out wide.
rick: I got a string of hookups between east and west coast who're a lot of fun to spend time with.
rick: After a few trips, it's a lot less going forward, and a lot more going back and forth. The road's where I live, baby. At least, for now.

The meal is a blur. {trucker.name} is an easy conversationalist, and he tells you funny stories of his time on the road over your food. It's easy to let the rest of it all slip away, and you focus on his rugged face, the sound of his voice, the motion of his hands.

Afterwards, {trucker.name} insists on paying for you.
